"Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman", winner of the 1966 Hugo Award, the 1965 Nebula Award and the 2015 Prometheus Hall of Fame Award, as well as being one of the most reprinted stories in the English language, "Wanted In Surgery", and "The Crackpots" are particularly famous examples of this theme in Ellison's work.
The general theme that runs through each of these stories is the rejection of the establishment and the fight of the individual against a corrupt authority. The collection's only hardcover edition is The Fantasies of Harlan Ellison, which compiles it together with Ellison's " I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream". Pyramid reissued the collection four times over the next fifteen years, with a new introduction added for a uniform edition of Ellison books in 1975. Ellison has a reputation for being highly demanding when it comes to granting movie rights to his work. Ellison, who needs no introduction, has seen many of his novels and short stories made into movies and TV shows over the years, including the well-reviewed 1975 adaptation of A Boy and His Dog. He also created a little thing called Babylon 5. Straczynski wrote the screenplays for Thor, World War Z, and many other recent movies.
